Summary: 877-366-0169 belongs to Midland Credit Management, a debt collection agency that collects debt for various creditors. Their call may be related to a previous debt or a mistaken identity that has led them to think you owe a debt to one of their clients. Depending on the circumstances, you may be able to stop the calls or dispute the debt. SoloSuit can help you resolve your debt and stop the calls for good.

877-366-0169 belongs to Midland Credit Management. As with any legitimate debt collection agency, Midland Credit Management can contact you if you owe money. They may contact you by phone, email, letter, or even in person to collect the outstanding balance.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) oversees when and how debt collectors like Midland Credit Management can contact consumers. By law, debt collectors cannot harass, threaten, deceive, or make false representations to consumers.

It also specifies what timeframes and places debt collectors can call. Debt collectors must also communicate clearly and honestly with consumers; they cannot use language that misleads or deceives them about their debts or legal rights. Send Midland Credit Management a written request if you want them to stop calling you, and upon receiving certified mail, they must cease all communication.

What is Midland Credit Management?

Midland Credit Management (MCM) has been collecting debts for over 50 years as one of the country's largest and oldest debt collection agencies. It was founded in 1953 and recovers charged-off debts from consumers.

Midland Credit Management is owned and operated by Encore Capital Group, a publicly traded debt buys and collection company. Bank of America, Capital One, and Discover are some common creditors Midland Credit Management works with. In most cases, MCM will ask consumers to agree to a payment plan when the company contacts them.

How do customers feel about their experience with Midland Credit Management?

A growing number of consumers are dissatisfied with Midland Credit Management. Many have complained about harassment through repeated phone calls, claims of unpaid debts, or lack of supporting documentation. The collection effort has even gone beyond the statute of limitations.

Based on data from the Better Business Bureau (BBB), 355 complaints have been resolved in the last three years. Last year, 137 complaints were resolved. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) shows 2,083 customers have experienced poor customer service and unprofessional behavior from collectors. Here is an example of a complaint from the CFPB database (edited for clarity).

“I am writing to express my continued frustration with Midland Credit Management and the negative impact they are having on my credit. I disputed this Account multiple times and have been attempting to resolve the issue with them. Despite my efforts, Midland Credit Management has continued reporting the alleged debt to credit bureaus, significantly impacting my credit score.”

You can stop 877-366-0169 calls—here’s how

The FDCPA restricts debt collectors from harassing or threatening you, so they must follow specific rules. Report debt collectors who do not follow the regulations to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) or your state's attorney general. Here are ways to stop 877-366-0169 calls:

  • The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) gives you the right to request that a debt collector refrains from contacting you. It can be verbal or written. In response to your request, the debt collector must stop calling you to collect the debt, though they may still write to you.

  • Send the debt collector a cease-and-desist letter if you wish to end all communications. In this letter, you request that the debt collector stop contacting you, including phone calls, letters, and emails.

  • Record your number on the National Do Not Call Registry by visiting their website or calling 1-888-382-1222.

  • Contact the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) about the calls. To file a complaint, go to the FTC’s website or call 1-877-382-4357. You can also file a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission or try calling the Consumer Complaint Hotline at 888-225-5322.

If you owe the debt, what are your options?

Contact Midland Credit Management if you acknowledge the debt and can pay it. You might want to negotiate if you are looking for a settlement or payment plan. Moreover, they may agree to accept a lower amount or offer a lower interest rate or longer repayment term. Learn more about debt settlement from this video.

If you don't owe the debt, what do you do?

Ask MCM to verify the debt by sending a Debt Validation Letter. The debt collector must supply proof of the debt, such as the original creditor's statement or a copy of the original contract. Among the information they can give you is:

  • Details of the original creditor
  • Amount owed
  • Last payment date

If you are no longer willing to receive automated calls from Midland Credit Management, you can revoke your consent by calling 877-366-0169. The Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) allows you to claim up to $1,500 per violation.
