How to use King County Superior Court electronic filing
All attorneys must electronically file (e-file) and e-serve all documents for debt collection cases. This is done using the Clerk's online eFiling application. The only exception is the King County Local General Rule 30.
Non-attorneys are not required to e-file documents, but can if they choose to. In some cases, electronic service of documents is required of non-attorneys if they elect to e-file documents. This is due to e-Service being mandatory per LGR 30(b)(4)(B). You must register to receive or serve documents.
Under this rule, there are specific documents that must be efiled, and others that do not need to be efiled. The following documents should not be efiled and instead must be filed in paper form rather than e-filed:
Original wills and codicils, including new probate cases that include original wills or codicils
Certified records of proceedings for purposes of appeal
Documents presented for filing during a court hearing or trial
Interpleader or Surplus Funds Petitions
Documents submitted for in camera review, including documents submitted under LGR 15
Affidavits for Writs of Garnishment and Writs of Execution
New cases or fee-based documents filed with an Order in Forma Pauperis.
Despite this, documents that can be efiled include:
Voluminous Documents: Documents that are over 500 pages or more
Answers to Writs of Garnishment
Appeals of lower court decisions
The Superior Court Clerk's eFiling application has three parts that complete different electronic processes. The first is the filing of the documents into an old or new case. This is followed by the electronic service of the documents. Then it will compile and submit the copies to the court, and eventually be submitted to the other party through the clerk of court. Prices are subject to the standard fee schedule as well as an eCommerce transaction fee of $2.49 for credit cards and $1.00 for internet checks.
